Built on the OngoingAI data index

A real Shopify ecosystem index — not a one-off checker

OngoingAI continuously tracks Shopify storefronts, the apps they run, the themes they ship, and the technologies that wire them together. The detector is one surface; the index powers brand stack pages, app coverage stats, category benchmarks, and co-install graphs.

Online detector vs Chrome extension

How OngoingAI's Shopify index is different from a Chrome extension

Chrome extensions are useful while you're browsing one store at a time. OngoingAI is different: the detector is one surface over an index of the Shopify ecosystem, so you can move from a scanned store to related apps, categories, brands, and stores running the same technology.

Chrome extension

  • One store, one tab, one moment
  • Install and update per browser
  • Desktop only
  • Scan runs against the store when you open it
  • No history, no related brands, no exports

OngoingAI (online)

  • Query one URL or explore the whole ecosystem
  • Nothing to install — works in any browser, on mobile
  • Detections drawn from a continuously refreshed index
  • Every app links to the App Store page, related brands, and alternatives
  • Install history, monitoring, and exports available with an account

How it works

How the Shopify App Detector works

  1. Step 1

    Check the index

If OngoingAI has a recent observation for the storefront, we return the cached app, theme, and technology stack instantly — no scan needed.

  2. Step 2

    Confirm Shopify

For storefronts new to the index, we verify Shopify from public signals before going deeper. Non-Shopify sites, social profiles, and link aggregators are rejected up front.

  3. Step 3

    Resolve visible apps

We map public storefront signals to Shopify App Store apps, theme identity, and ecommerce technologies — then render the result with icons, ratings, and links to alternatives.

What it can see

Public storefront evidence

  • Apps that publish storefront-facing markup, scripts, or asset references
  • Theme family and version from the storefront's inline Shopify globals
  • Storefront technologies with public signals — analytics, marketing pixels, review widgets, subscription buttons, support widgets, page builders
  • Whether the storefront is running Shopify at all, based on observable Shopify infrastructure

What it can't see

Backend, private, and checkout-only apps

  • Backend-only apps and server-side integrations
  • Checkout-only apps (Shopify serves checkout markup)
  • Admin-only apps and internal workflows
  • Private apps and custom implementations
  • Apps installed but not currently loading public signals

Missing detections don't mean an app isn't installed — they mean OngoingAI didn't observe a public signal for it. Read the methodology for how to interpret results.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Is the Shopify App Detector free?
Yes. The online Shopify App Detector is free to use — no login and no rate limit for casual scans. Detections are pulled from OngoingAI's Shopify ecosystem index. Sign up when you want install history, exports, or continuous monitoring.
Do I need a Chrome extension to detect Shopify apps?
No. OngoingAI's detector runs online, so there is nothing to install and nothing to keep updated. It works from any browser on any device, including mobile. If you already scan Shopify stores with a Chrome extension, this is the permanent index that extension would ping from a single tab.
What does the online Shopify App Detector do?
It resolves a Shopify store URL against OngoingAI's index and returns the Shopify App Store apps, theme, and storefront technologies that are publicly visible on that storefront. Every detection links to the app catalog page, related brands running the same app, and alternatives.
Which apps and technologies can it detect?
Apps that surface public storefront signals — review apps, subscription apps, email and SMS marketing, loyalty and rewards, upsell and bundle tools, support widgets, search and personalization, analytics, consent management, and page builders. It also returns the storefront theme (family and version) and the broader ecommerce tech stack (payment providers, CDNs, marketing pixels, tag managers). Not every app leaves public evidence — see the methodology page for what may not be visible.
Does it work as a Shopify theme and app detector?
Yes. Every scan returns the theme identity and version alongside the app list. If you want the theme card front-and-center, use the sibling Shopify Theme Detector — both tools share the same backend, so results are consistent across the two surfaces.
Why don't some apps show up on a scan?
Backend-only apps, checkout-only apps, private and custom apps, admin-only integrations, and inactive apps often don't leave public storefront signals. Missing detections don't mean an app isn't installed — they mean OngoingAI didn't observe a public signal for it. The methodology page covers what's typically visible and what isn't.
How fresh are the results?
OngoingAI's Shopify ecosystem index refreshes on a rolling basis. Every result carries a 'last seen' or 'last scanned' timestamp so freshness is legible. Popular brands and storefronts with more change activity are refreshed more often; long-tail storefronts may be less recent.
Do detections mean an app is actively installed?
Detections mean OngoingAI observed a public storefront signal for that app. That's typically an installed and running app, but it can also indicate a recently installed or embedded app whose signal hasn't cleared. Treat results as 'observed public signal' rather than 'confirmed active install' — the methodology page explains how we group detections by confidence.
